What are Discount to Market Homes?

Discount to market is a scheme that helps local people who might otherwise struggle to afford a property in the region purchase their new home at a reduced price. The scheme is designed specifically to support people who live and work in an area.

Who is eligible for Discount to Market?

Several factors are considered when determining eligibility for Discount to Market homes. These include:

  • An inability to afford a suitable home on the open market
  • Being a first-time buyer or no longer named on the mortgage of an existing property
  • Have a connection to the local area such as:
    • Being a resident of the area
    • Permanently employed in the area, and needing to live locally
    • Having a long-standing connection to the region, such as family ties

Do I need to pay additional rent?

Unlike a shared ownership scheme, with Discount to Market, you will own 100% of the property, and do not need to pay additional rent.

What happens if I sell the property in future?

The Discount to Market remains in place on the house, so once the time comes to sell, that same price reduction and criteria for sale will be available to the new buyer.
